Lake Griffin State Park
Lake Griffin is a beautiful state park right out our back door. Our chapter has taken on planting and maintaining the entrance area with native plants. The area is dedicated to Steve Turnipseed, our founding president.
Time: 7:45 am
Meeting Location: Big Cypress Recreation Center, 3110 Hendry Dr., The Villages
Sign up at September, October, or November in-person meetings or email fnpsthevillagesgmail.com.
Resident Ranger Jan Wichterman will be leading us on a 1.8-mile hike along the Spur Trail. Jan will walk us through swamp and sandhill habitats teaching us about flora and fauna along with some park history.
Terrain is relatively flat with some sand and tree roots so hiking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Bring drinking water. There is water available from spigots at the park.
Our group size will be capped at 12 so sign up early if you want to join our group.
The cost is $4.00 for a single vehicle and $5.00 for a 2-8 person vehicle.
There is bathroom availability with flush toilets at both Big Cypress and Lake Griffith. as well. Sue mentioned we would be going to Oakwood Smokehouse & Grill following our hike. It was my understanding that people would sign up at our next in-person meeting. I do not want my personal telephone number or email on our public website.
