Natives in the News
The Saturday Home & Garden section of The Daily Sun runs the Native Plant Focus which briefly highlights a plant of interest each week. The on-line January 2016 Gardener’s Journal featured the Coontie as the native plant this month.
This Month’s Meeting Presentation
If you are considering modifications to your landscape, you will be very interested in the topic this month, “Architectural Review Committee and Community Standards” Diane Tucker and Candice Dennis will provide an overview of the change request approval process and answers to common approval questions.
Upcoming Meeting Presentations
Feb 26 - Topic: "Celebrating the Wild Side of Florida: Portals into Nature, Culture, and Sense of Place" by Bill Belleville.
Mar 25 - Topic: "A brief history of the Southwest Florida Water Management regulatory program and a discussion on the ecology of wetland systems, their maintenance and preservation" by Ross Morton with SWFWMD. This is a timely topic, as The Villages has a wetland vegetation maintenance proposal with a cost estimate of $100,000 which will be rolled out at a District #1 meeting on March 31.

FNPS membership is tax deductible and runs for 12 months from the date you sign up. Forms and annual dues are accepted at the meeting or you can join online at www.fnps.org Our chapter has exceeded 110 paid memberships and still growing. If you have not joined, please consider doing so. Those who joined in 2015 will receive renewal notices the month before they are due.
