Florida Native Landscape
Featured in Dwell Magazine
Dwell Magazine declares mowed-grass landscaping otherwise known as turf is "so passsé—and horrible for the environment". This is not news to Steve Turnipseed. He founded The Villages Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society in 2014. Steve was chapter president for many years and has helped many homeowners plant Florida native plants in The Villages. He began planting natives even before he moved into his home and continues the design process to this day.
Steve Turnipseed has created an oasis of Florida native plants around his home. He removed all the turf grass and filled his yard with over 100 Florida native trees, shrubs, and flowers. In 2016 this yard won an FNPS Award of Excellence. “Flip my Yard” visited and videoed Steve’s yard for one of their programs. Steve hosts the annual Landscaping Tour of The Villages Florida Native Plants. Join us each spring to see this home and several other homes in The Villages using Florida natives. Videos of this home are linked on The Villages FNPS YouTube Channel.
