Wetlands

  • Protect from floods.
  • Collect and store excess storm and high tide water to protect dry land from floods.
  • Provide storage for excess water.
  • Perform erosion control by absorbing energy created by boat wakes.
  • Maintain a buffer between open water and uplands.
  • Create habitat for wildlife and migratory birds
  • Seafood, shellfish, and sports fish develop in wetlands.
  • Found in state parks, aquatic preserves, and estuarine research preserves.
