A “Best Book” for Native Plants

Do you ever feel sometimes that only a book will do? Linda Bishop, master gardener, will share her favorite “Best Book” on native plants! Linda’s been a member of FNPS since its inception, and she’s the person who “magically” makes plants appear (courtesy of Green Isle Gardens) for our monthly drawings! (back)

Plant Identification

“Best Plant Identification Apps” will give you tools for identifying plants with your smart phone! Learn from Alycyn Culbertson, experienced gardener and Butterfly Garden Queen. If you’ve ever pulled up a plant you forgot you planted last year or left in the ground too long a plant you just discovered was invasive, these digital gardening tools can work for you!

Where and How to Plant Natives in Your Landscape

Key questions that drive all gardeners (and sometimes drive us nuts): Sun or shade? Dry or moist? Who eats it? How tall does it get? When does it bloom? What’s its diameter?

Ahhh…relax. Mac Camacho-Viera is here to answer those questions and more in her talk, “How and Where to Plant Natives in Your Landscape”. Mac is the resident Native Plant Concierge at Green Isle Gardens in Groveland. We know from experience that she’s great at assisting gardeners in plant selection for the habitat they’re working on. With a degree in Psychology, she understands the tremendous therapeutic and restorative power in being outdoors in nature, gardening, and exploring the wilderness.

Originally from Puerto Rico, she grew up in Annapolis, MD. MAC is passionate in her involvement and commitment to the Study of Nature and the Environment. A member of the Florida Native Plant Society, Tar Flower Chapter, and a long-standing member of the Florida Humanities Council, she enjoys kayaking, hiking, flats fishing, and traveling. An avid photographer and mixed media painter, she regularly contributes observations to iNaturalist and the UF Air Potato Patrol as a Citizen Scientist. She volunteers on a regular basis at the Oakland Nature Preserve and assists in the Restoration of Habitat, Plant Surveys, and Education efforts as a Florida Master Naturalist and Blue-Hike leader, exploring Florida waterways. (back)
