Gardening With (and to Avoid) Back Problems

A sore back can happen at any moment, but the most common time for Florida gardeners is…you guessed it…March and April, when we’re getting back into our gardens after the freezes. Dr. Chris Kessler from Legacy Clinic in The Villages will take us through simple chair exercises and give us pointers on how to keep us safe and strong while in the garden. He’ll explain what to do when there’s only a little discomfort and identify when to seek help.
After Chris, as a child, was diagnosed with scoliosis he found little relief and improvement until finally turning to a chiropractor. What he gained from this experience led him into the field. He works with athletes and is Titleist Performance Certified to work on patients’ golf swings. His greatest success story? Treating a patient with complete numbness in her arms and legs and curing that by changing what she was drinking! And gardeners?? Chris says there’s a common thread in his patients who love to grow plants. He often hears, “I was doing fine for the first four hours, and then…” Come learn from Dr. Kessler, and then share his advice with your friends who also love to dig in the dirt…for hours. Especially in March and April. Just sayin’. (back)
